Mercedes-Benz SL 500 R230

Engineer Frank Knothe considers the R 230 SL series to be the most interesting and successful project for which he has been responsible for. This series was introduced to the market in 2001 and was produced for the next 10 years. It successfully resolved the conflict of goals resulting from the requirements of the specification documentation. Improving the space conditions inside and increasing the stiffness of the body while reducing weight and improving the driving dynamics of the car. Perhaps that's why the R230 gave Knothel a lasting sense of satisfaction. In addition to the requirements already mentioned, a further increase in the level of passive and active safety systems was expected. This was just as difficult to ensure as the previous list of requirements, because the already excellent R 129 model series had to be improved.

The example presented by Legends has a beautiful Teal Blue paint, i.e. a shade of sea, and a beige leather interior. This configuration immediately brings to mind a sunny coast and a sunset ride. We will not be mistaken in our feelings in this case, because the car was purchased in sunny Florida.

The accident-free car arrived at Legends in great condition and required little work to make it look like in the photos.
