In September 1979, Daimler-Benz presented the new generation of the S-Class at the IAA in Frankfurt. The W126 series initially consisted of seven vehicles with different engines. The most spectacular and innovative engine in the range was the 5.6-litre unit created by extending the piston strokes of the 5.0-litre V8 engine and fitted into the 560 SEL and 560 SEC W126 models. These most powerful cars of their time, produced by Mercedes-Benz, caught the attention of the then-independent tuner from Affalterbach.
While exact figures are unknown, it is estimated that AMG has built no more than 200 of the amazing car called the "Hammer". It is a 6-liter, 32-valve V8 engine designed and built in Affalterbach, which is installed in the W124 and W126 models.
The AMG engine design featured custom cylinder heads with four valves per cylinder, doubling the torque at the half of the maximum speed of the original engine. The engine with upgraded capacity of 6 litres, generates 360 horsepower instead of the serial 285 hp - and that made a big difference.
Front and rear bumpers designed by AMG and a hallmark of that period - two-colour rims are not all the extras that can be found in the W126 6.0 AMG.
Characteristic white dials and an AMG steering wheel with a hub adapter also add style to the interior.
