The top and most successful model was the 500 SL/SL 500 with the four-valve M 119 V8 engine. The maximum speed of this vehicle, which at the time of its debut was the most powerful Mercedes-Benz passenger car available, was limited to 250 km/h. The 5-liter 500 SL with a 326 hp engine is now a sought-after young classic with a star on the hood.
