The convertible W124 is one of the most desirable versions of the popular representative of the middle class series from Mercedes-Benz. However, looking at the A124 in retrospect, it is difficult to find any signs of this middle class.
In September 1991, the fifth version of the middle class body was presented at the IAA in Frankfurt. Why did customers have to wait 6 years for it?
Despite the good base of the vehicle's structure, Mercedes had to construct approximately 1,000 new parts to stiffen the body. For almost all structural elements, a thicker or more durable steel sheet was used. More than 130 kg of additional weight was necessary to compensate for 28 kg of the missing coupé roof. However, it was worth waiting, as the improved body had its torsional stiffness similar to the sedan version and it was just as safe. For the first time in 20 years, a four-seater convertible has reappeared in the Mercedes-Benz range.
Just 6 months after production of A124 started, it was provided with improved interior equipment. The car was equipped with a driver's airbag, left and right electric exterior mirrors, central locking and a 5-speed transmission.
In North America, Japan and the British Isles, the A124 was put into the market in October 1992 only with a new 3.2-litre, 6-cylinder 320 CE engine.
The power of 220 hp, smooth engine running, automatic transmission and 70-litre fuel tank make the A124 320 CE a true long-distance cruiser. The pleasure of driving and comfortable travel for 4 people in a real convertible is an opportunity to gain unique experiences. Beautiful condition, low mileage and universal configuration of colours make our Mercedes-Benz 320 CE A124 not only an unparalleled companion for years, but also a beautiful example of a preserved youngtimer with investment potential.
