Mercedes-Benz 560SEC (C126)

At the Frankfurt International Motor Show IAA, in September 1981, Daimler-Benz presented models 380 SEC and 500 SEC. This new generation of the Coupé was again based on the S-Class limousine and not on the SL, as was the case of its predecessor, the 107 series. The V8-engines, already known in the limousine and SLC models, had been thoroughly redesigned. The list of modifications included, among others, an increase in the compression ratio, modified camshafts, revised valve timing, different injection valves and electronic idle speed control.

In the C126 SEC model, Mercedes introduced disc brakes with floating callipers on the front wheels for the first time. It allowed the use of larger brake discs and locating the cylinders on the inside of the wheels, where they could be cooled more efficiently. The wheelbase of the SEC was 30 millimetres longer than in the previous Coupe series, and the passenger compartment was much more spacious. With the reinforced body, the Coupé met the same high safety standard as the S-Class saloons. An interesting detail was the introduction of electrically operated belt feeders, which were designed to move the belt into the field of vision of the driver and passenger.

The elegant and harmonious design of the car was highly appreciated from the very beginning: the SEC Coupé was one of the most beautiful cars of its period and, what is important, it has remained this way ever since.

The SEC presented by Legends has undergone a paint renovation. Its interior is provided with new upholstery and the wooden elements inside the cabin have been renovated and customised especially for this project. The engine and gearbox have been completely rebuilt (the car has travelled 50 test kilometres since the renovation).

The car has been also equipped with an upgraded audio equipment controlled by a classic Becker unit. The suspension was also changed, as well as the air conditioning system. Black paint and cosy interior with leather upholstery in Palomino colour are perfectly matched. The look is rounded off with Performa 25 rims in AMG style.
